Flowers Don’t Speak

Five cream-colored envelopes arrive on the same day, each at the exact moment someone needed one. Inside is an invitation to a spoken-word night from a poet called DeShawn Da Poet, and the letters do not read like promotions. They read like someone already knows what each person lost and never said. By nightfall all five are in a small candlelit room with a single flower pot at the back of the stage. The poems move through the room like conversations nobody knew they needed. A father records the voice message his daughter should have had before her wedding. A couple realizes their marriage did not die from hate but from everything they gave instead of saying. A man everyone leans on admits he is never seen. Two brothers stand in the same room with a grief neither knows how to name first. A daughter keeps loving a mother who no longer knows her. Nobody on stage tells them what to do. The room just takes away the places they hide.
