Murked Out: The Return

Dan E-Man was never supposed to be there that night. The white kid from the block froze when things went bad, took a bullet for it, and somewhere between the gunshot and the hospital ceiling found himself in a fluorescent waiting room being asked one question: you done? He was not. When he comes back weeks later, the block does what it does and turns pain into content. Inside twenty minutes he is Murked Out Dan, a hood legend and a punchline, and they call him White Jesus every time he tries to explain. Dan laughs along, because that is how you survive. But he moves slower now, talks quieter and looks people in the eye too long, and everybody can feel it. Especially T-Ray, the loudest man on the block, who was standing right there when it happened. When Dan finally says so, out loud and quiet, the jokes stop.
