The Moment Before
A woman sits with a three-sentence message she cannot send, while the coincidences piling up around her start to feel like somebody already knows what she will choose.
Jade has been looking at the same message for eleven minutes. Three sentences, one decision, and no version of sending it leaves her life the way it is. The room is quiet except for the cursor. The city outside carries on, but the small things start adding up. A number she keeps seeing. A lyric through the wall that answers a thought she never said out loud. A notification that arrives the second she changes her mind, then disappears before she can read it. The longer she sits there, the less private the room feels. She cannot walk away from the message. She presses send. Across the street, in a dark window, a man she has never seen closes a small notebook, like someone writing down a result he expected.
She sent it. Somebody had already written it down.
